We are going to Spain next week and are seriously starting to worry about two rather major matters. Will the places to stay be open mid-March? Is there anywhere you can recommend to store our suitcases for about a week? We are flying into Bilbao from the U.S.

Hi Bethan and Ben
We walked the Camino in October/November 2008 using your book as a guide. It was such a wonderful experience even though challenging at times. We found your book very useful and easy to use.
Just one comment we would like to make. We encountered bed bugs on the way, with Jennifer developing quite a severe allergic reaction to them. We wondered if in a future edition it would be possible to include some tips; firstly on how to avoid bed bugs, and secondly on how to get rid of them.
We found it very difficult to come by such information. As bed bugs are so prevalent on the Camino, we found it puzzling as to why none of the information we read prior to going to Spain even mentioned bed bugs.
Good luck with your new edition!
Cheers

Hi there,
Am just getting into researching for our sons' (16 and 19)venture to walk the El Camino next summer and would love to order your book in the New Year. (I understand you are going to be sipping on well-deserved Rioja until then.) Can you please tell me where I can go to order one?

Thanks and cheers!

Hi Theresa
There are places to stay about every 10km along the route. As for distances to do each day I always tell people to take their time and go as slow as possible. There is so much to see and take in. This is very true for the start of the camino, when you may not be full fit. Take it easy and resist the urge to push on. Take it easy to Logrono and if you get that far then maybe think about longer days. Also the weather can be a huge factor in deciding how far to go each day.
There are loads of good websites all you need to do is type camino de santiago into a search engine .

Hi, I have just bought your book'walking the camino de santiago' i am planning a first time trip in 2009, so i am interested and greedy for past travellers information and tips. I would like to travel in mid June 2009, thinking of starting at st jean pied de port. i will be travelling alone, but that doesnt seem to be a problem, but i am a bit anxious about finding accommodation in the evenings and how far should i travel each day and how difficult is it really.
is there a good website search,
regards Theresa

I did Ourense to Compostela 11 - 15 May 08. Here are a few notes:

Ourense
alburque easy to miss. avoid Casa Rosa hostal, mildewy towels etc. confusing directions in book

Cea
can't miss alburque - yellow arrows on every building. wouldn't give sello if just passing through.

Monasterio de Oseira
No individual rooms. Monks DON'T prance around making chocolate and cheese. Bunks available but in a cold, very damp, one room building with no hot water or washing facilities - just what you don't need when covered with sweat. sello from bar

Castro Dozon
Temporary (porta cabin) 40 bed facility on north end of main road. good water and clean facilities. poorly marked approach last 10km. confusing directions in book

Bandiera
poorly marked approach. no alburque, better option is to stay in Silleda instead.

Vedra
newish alburque on camino 2.4 km past Ponte Ulla. Good facilities, water not great
